there's a good story to be told here...
and until i get all the facts (by monday, i swear), here' s a little summary:

the building itself has been around since 1906 (i assume built after the earthquake) and has seen many incarnations since then. the most relevant in this case was when it opened as the "jazz workshop" in 1958. miles davis played here. so did charles mingus.

a friend of mine has several of the jazz workshop live albums, and i hope to post a clip or two here for your listening pleasure (and just to add to the overall ambiance...) i don't (yet) have the set-up to do it right, but i could swing a basic audio file... check back soon for that...
