crowds...
lights...
and excellent movies...

the san francisco film festival's 39th season. although some movies are shown at the kabuki complex, many are previewed here at the castro theater, one of my favorite local landmarks. the theater opened in 1922 and has a wurlitzer organ that rises up out of the floor to treat guests on special occassions. the interior is very ornate, but i'm a sucker for the flashy marquee...

i shot these on thursday night when i went to see jim jarmusch's new film "dead man". one of the coolest things about the festival is that the directors or actors are often on hand to answer questions... jim jarmusch was there, and in fine form answering questions and crackin' jokes, not to mention the fact that he was with neil young and tom waits...

a few missing bulbs, but beautiful none the less...

dead man poster and girl...
out front before the movie...

working those heat lamps...
(this time i just had a cup of coffee...)
